Music and Image

Since the year 2002, China Here And There has run music workshops for young people, mainly from the Manchester Chinese community, introducing them to traditional and modern Chinese music.

The workshops were run by both Chinese and non-Chinese musicians, culminating in Manchester-based performances at The Triangle (2003), the Bridgewater Hall (2004), and Central Hall (2004).

The workshops and performances were produced in conjunction with the Greater Manchester Music Action Zone (GMMAZ).

We also ran Chinese music workshops in primary schools in the Manchester area.

Traditional Chinese music was played by Henry Fong and Ada Fong as an overture for our Contact Theatre performance of Rainbow and Taking A Liberty (2001), and our instruments were used by Arts Education Manchester and members of the Manchester Camerata to accompany the staging of Sky Burial (2005), for rehearsals throughout the year and for the performances at Contact Theatre, Manchester.
